Programme

There have been one or two changes from the format used last year. The championships
this year will be in three parts.

Sprint championships - Sunday 14th June at Auchenharvie - warm up at 5.30pm - team event

Relay championships - Sunday 16th August at Auchenharvie - warm up at 5.30 pm - team event

2010 Rules

Closing date for entries 2 weeks before championships.

1. Age as at 31 December

2. A sprint night (50m) will be held earlier in the year to help with the relay selection for the Scottish and so that swimmers have up to date times for the West District sprints. LEN points achieved at the sprints will be brought forward towards the club championships in October. (Sprints all LEN points.)

3. The relay night will be held at the beginning of the new session (August) as it brings all swimmers together.

4. The scoring at the relay gala will be 6,5,4, 3,2,1 points regardless of team position.

5. Coaches awards will be determined on performance, attitude, attendance and effort Best Boy and Girl in Bronze and below Best Boy and Girl in Silver squad upwards

6. 8 years and under can choose any 5 events from either 25 Fly, 25 Back, 25 Breast, 25 Free and 100 IM or 50 Fly, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Free and 100 IM Any swimmer who swam in previous years championships must swim 50m events.

7. On championship day the 8 years and under, 25m events will be scored by 6,5,4,3,2,1.points. All other 8 year and under events will be scored by LEN points

8. 9 years can choose any five events from 50, 100m and 200m strokes but one of which must be a 200m event and a minimum of four different strokes. (not 100 IM)

9. 10 years and over can choose any 5 events from, 100 and 200 all strokes, 400, 800, 1500 Freestyle and 400IM, All swimmers will have to swim a minimum of four different strokes as part of their five swims, one will be a distance event, and one 200m event (not 100IM)

10. Swimmers can earn points for their teams in all three rounds of the club championships but relay round does not count towards individual champion.

11. Team points in all three rounds will be scored on a 6,5,4,3,2,1 basis.

12. Swimmers to choose events at the club championships not parents. New swimmers will swim at their ability level, which means they may not swim at the distances appropriate to their age group (must be discussed and agreed by Head Coach). If this is the case then these swims will not score points for the individual swimmer awards.

13. Masters swimmers to swim any 50 or 100m events.

14. Swimmers not turning up are letting their team down.

Len points The calculation is based on the world record being approved by FINA If a performance is not listed in the table, it is to be valued with the number of points attached to the next time listed. Any further information on LEN points can be found on the Scottish Swimming web site.


There seems to be some confusion over what strokes swimmers can or can not enter.

New 8 years and under swimmers can swim 1 lenght (25m) of all stokes, fly, back, breast, & free plus 100m IM.

Old 8 year & 9 year swimmers can swim 50m of all strokes, fly, back, breast & free plus 100 IM.

10 years and over swimmers can swim any 5 strokes, one of which must be a 200m event and one distance event i.e.
any 100m event, fly, back, breast & free
any 200m event,
fly, back, breast, free & 200m IM
distance events are 400, 800 and 1500 freestyle and 400m IM.
